The Great Reset

Publisher’s Note: This article is being published posthumously. Just two days after signing his contract to join our team as Executive Editor, Haydn wrote to me about his vision for Biznology. We wanted to share his words and thoughts with you as part of our tribute to Haydn as we unveil the new Biznology that he envisioned. – Jen McClure, Publisher

The world is about to enter a great reset, one that should maybe have happened in 2008 but is happening now. The US stimulus, Europe has one too, the IMF saying we need to tax the wealthy, the urgency of climate change, personal accounts of needing a different life, sectoral challenges such as medicine of well being, energy or conservation, working hard versus mental health, they are all on people’s minds.

What strikes me about Biznology and Consultants Collective’s work is that it is about improvement rather than about transformation. The key differentiator could lie here. There is a strong creative tension between the need to improve work, productivity, marketing, leadership and the point at which it needs to change. We can help organizations improve, and when we see improvement starting to hit its limits we look at what needs to change, how to change it and how to minimise risk so we can take improvement to the next level… I think we can differentiate here.

We can focus on different aspects of the reset, i.e., leadership, marketing, networks, alternatives to transformation, the endgame (i.e., where the reset is headed). We’ll cover the constraints of climate, morals and ethics, changing needs, global relationships such as China. We’ll look at changes in the field of entrepreneurism, such as impact investing, impact startups, how the new startup community will introduce a new kind of competition for the enterprise. We’ll be the voice of how this reset is playing out and should play out. Have a point of view. But stick to this central tension, that a lot can be improved without it being transformed.

As we enter a post-pandemic era, Biznology will focus on this Great Reset and will shine a light on how leaders can build back better and discover and adopt new ideas and a deeper commitment to embodying values and purpose to make a real difference in addressing the opportunities and risks we all face.
